Type of chips, swarf or scrap / correct conveyor design

How important is to correctly choose a type of conveyor?

It is very important that you consider the purpose your conveyor will serve, or what type of material you need to transport. For easy orientation, we prepared our recommendations, displayed in the following table, for you. Depending on the type of the transported material, chips, cuttings, or scraps from your production, you can choose from three basic types of conveyors (hinged steel belt conveyor, scraper [drag flight] conveyor, or magnetic conveyor). Choose from many options (additional accessories) listed directly by the individual conveyor types.

Chips from standard, heat—treated and hardened steel and from special alloys (1—9)

For chips, swarf or scrap and waste from hardened or heat–treated materials, always ask for the tracks and bottom of the conveyor to be made of highly wear–resistant material (we are using HARDOX). This investment will pay back greatly by the maximum extension of the life of your conveyors.

Chips from aluminum, from light and colored metals and from plastics (10—12)

If you are getting small, light chips, they have the tendency to drain with the coolant / cutting emulsion in the tanks and can clog the pumps! We recommend using hinged steel belt conveyors where the chips get caught on the belt and the coolant is filtered through. Using chip scrapers to scrape the chips off the belt or air knives is inevitable.
Use our belt filters or the BROXFIL complete filtration system for the consequent cleaning of the cutting liquids.
If you are getting very fine chips, for example, from bronze, it is necessary to evaluate the conveyor type case by case.

In case of longer chips, for example, from an alloy of aluminum, when machining aluminum wheel rims, we again recommend using hinged steel belt conveyors.

Types of chips suitable for scraper and magnetic conveyors (13—15)

In case of scraper conveyors, we always offer the bottom and tracks made of highly wear-resistant materials. This design of the conveyor allows transporting even small chips from, for example, cast iron, as well as small chips from steel, hardened or tough materials. As an option (additional accessory) to the scraper conveyors, we offer scrapers from special copper or spring steel.

When choosing a magnetic conveyor, the transported material must always be magnetic.
